Electric Lake

Moab, Utah

"An electric blue lake in the middle of the desert. While it may be toxic waste that is detrimental to the environment...it looks pretty dang cool. These pools are potash evaporation ponds, a salt used in fertilizers. The pools are part of a mining process and are dyed a vibrant blue to absorb and retain heat from the sun, which speeds up the evaporation process. As the water evaporates at different rates, the colors of the pool vary. Once the ponds evaporate, a machine scrapes them up to collect potash crystals for processing."
